Are You an Honest Person?
1. How many lies do you get to tell before you are a liar? Explain
Telling one lie would make one a liar by definition. A person can make a mistake a lie once and regret it. A person can also make lying into a habit. The latter type is one who is going to be labeled a liar more than the former.
2. What would you do if you found $10,000 on the shelf beneath an ATM machine and saw you find it?
I would call the police immediately and wait there with the money and hand it over to the police.
3. People often rationalize their own dishonesty by saying, "That's why the world is, so why should I be different?" What do you think of this reasoning?
This sounds like ethical egoismwhatever works for me is okay. It is completely antithetical to virtue ethics or even duty ethics. The world is a vampire, as Billy Corgan once said. One should not strive to follow its example.
4. Is there anything wrong with a "small" lie to family members or friends to keep from upsetting them? How many times have you been caught telling a "small" lie to someone important to you? What do these "small" lies do to your credibility? What does it do to your self esteem when you know you have lied?
I do not like to tell any lie. I am often blunt with people. I tell them dont ask if you dont want the truth before I say anything that I know might offend them. That way they know beforehand that the reply they get might not be something they likeand if they dont want to hear it, they dont push. I have been caught...
Telling even a small lie is like taking a knife to my self esteem and cutting it. I hate that.5. Someone people don't count little lies as lies. How do you feel about that idea? How do you think it affects others to be lied to-even a little bit?
Little lies can be very bad, not only because it can make one into a habitual liar but also because it means one is constantly deceiving oneself and others. Telling lies is like putting a blindfold over others eyes and over ones...
…walkand having that path makes life very easy because you wont get lost if you stick to it.13. What risks are involved in being honest? What risks are involved in being dishonest? How do
you benefit from being an honest person?
The only risk involved in being honest is offending someone who is affronted by honesty and truth. The risks involved in being dishonest are that you end up in a bad situation with bad friendslike Pinocchio when he and his friends are turning into donkeys. You benefit from being an honest person by being attracted to other good people who are also attracted to you because they see your honesty.
14. What does honesty have to do with your character?
Honesty is like the fortress surrounding your character. It is like the law that keeps the riff raff out.
15. "How would you feel if one of your lies was printed on the front page of the newspaper?" How
might that help keep you honest?
I would not like that at all. Im not sure it would keep me honest because I wouldnt care what others thought about me in that regard. I am honest because I care what God thinks about me, and He sees everything I doso no need for…
